uBlock Origin WebSocket chrome extension is A companion extension to uBlock Origin: this gives uBlock Origin the ability to see and filter WebSocket connection attempts..

A companion extension to uBlock Origin: this gives ublock origin the ability to see and filter websocket connection attempts..

An optional companion extension for Chromium-based browsers to expose websocket connections to uBlock Origin.

[1] IMPORTANT: there is no point installing this companion extension unless you have ublock origin installed and enabled.

[2] UPDATE: since this companion extension was published, uBlock Origin has itself gained the ability to blanket-block all websocket connection attempts for specific sites using a new filter syntax.

For example, the filter "*$websocket,domain=example.com" will block *all* websocket connection attempts for web pages from "example.com".

EasyList now supports this syntax, and contains such filters.

[3] ### Purpose For Chromium-based browsers, WebSocket connections are not available to the chrome.webRequest API.

[4] This companion extension (its pointless to use it as a standalone) will allow ublock origin to become aware of WebSocket connection attempts: they can be filtered, and will be reported in the logger.

Related: chromium issue 129353.

[5] In fact, any extension which listens to network request through the chrome.webRequest API can gain the ability to see and act on WebSocket connections with this companion extensions.

Currently known to work with ublock origin 1.7.2 and above.

The extension has no interactive UI, just an icon in the toolbar to remind its enabled.

Your browser should allow you to hide the icon if it annoys you.

use ublock origins logger if you want to see and possibly filter websocket connections.

In case you find it interferes negatively with a site, you can just disable the companion extension, and report the issue on the projects issue tracker.
