the only thing you need to do to get this working in Markdown files on Github is to either use:

- `$a = b$` or `$$a = b$$` format, or
- escape your backslash, like `\(a = bc\)` or `\[a = bc\]`

You dont need to escape markdown in your code comments. Theyll render just fine.
