red gear means that site mining is blocked.

Green & red gear means that site mines but is in the white list.

mine control blocks resources, domains and ip addresses known for spreading cryptocurrency mining javascript code using your browser and hardware. It refers to a blacklist of domains and blocks any request made by such websites. You can manually edit, add or remove the domains from the blacklist.
